Chai is a delicious South Asian black tea steeped in spices, milk, and sugar. Chai can always be found brewing on street corners of India and serves as the drink to welcome guests into your home. Although chai is now a part of mainstream Indian culture, it has a complicated past with roots in colonialism. In this class, Shri Repp will teach you the history of chai while reimagining a typical Western tea party into an Indian chai party. You will make two types of chai: a sweet and spicy masala chai that will be brewed with a freshly ground spice blend and a floral rose chai that is oh so comforting. You’ll sip your chai while making mint chutney and cucumber finger sandwiches, potato and pea filled samosas, as well as a spongy dhokla (steamed chickpea flour sponge cake topped with tempered spices and freshly grated coconut).

We understand that plans can change. When possible, we are happy to offer a credit or a transfer to a future event if we are able to fill your spot from our waitlist. Because our classes are small and ingredient-driven, this is not guaranteed and depends on demand and timing. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the event are not eligible for credit or transfer, as we are typically unable to fill those spots on short notice.
