As Tavern Pie has grown in popularity beyond its midwestern roots, the excitement over these crisp, square-cut pies has caused many of us to hit the streets in search of the best version. Lucky for us Sarah Monson is going to show us how to recreate this new favorite in our home kitchen! You’ll learn how to make Chicago tavern-style pizza crust that you’ll top with homemade “Provel” cheese, creamy roasted garlic white sauce, and classic tomato sauce, and then tuck into some of the fun combinations: Italian braised beef with and homemade giardiniera; “Chicago Dog” white pie with relish, peppers, and celery salt; as well as a classic pepperoni and sausage red pie.
Please note: some classes can be adjusted for students with dietary restrictions, but many cannot. If you’re vegetarian, pescatarian, or gluten-free, you can use the drop-down menu on our events page to view the best classes to fit your needs. If a class you’re interested in doesn’t appear in that filtered view, please email us before registering and we’ll see if the class’s menu can be modified.
All class and event purchases at The Pantry are non-refundable. If you’re unable to attend, you are always welcome to transfer your ticket to a friend or family member.
We understand that plans can change. When possible, we are happy to offer a credit or a transfer to a future event if we are able to fill your spot from our waitlist. Because our classes are small and ingredient-driven, this is not guaranteed and depends on demand and timing. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the event are not eligible for credit or transfer, as we are typically unable to fill those spots on short notice.
