Layer cakes have long stood as an icon of American culture. For many, they represent celebration, togetherness, and tradition, triggering cravings for the cakes our mom, uncle, grandma, or cousin always made. In the South, where cake and pie fight for the crown, layers of cake stand impossibly tall and regal like your Aunt Judy’s hair on Sunday. Marianna Stepniewski is our resident champion of layer cakes, so come to class and let her teach you to bake, fill, and frost your way to glorious heights. In class, you’ll make Alabama lane cake with coconut, pecan, dried fruit and bourbon custard filling and 7-minute frosting; hummingbird cake with vanilla cream cheese frosting and pecan praline; and red velvet cake with molasses cream cheese frosting.
Please note: some classes can be adjusted for students with dietary restrictions, but many cannot. If you’re vegetarian, pescatarian, or gluten-free, you can use the drop-down menu on our events page to view the best classes to fit your needs. If a class you’re interested in doesn’t appear in that filtered view, please email us before registering and we’ll see if the class’s menu can be modified.
All class and event purchases at The Pantry are non-refundable. If you’re unable to attend, you are always welcome to transfer your ticket to a friend or family member.
We understand that plans can change. When possible, we are happy to offer a credit or a transfer to a future event if we are able to fill your spot from our waitlist. Because our classes are small and ingredient-driven, this is not guaranteed and depends on demand and timing. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the event are not eligible for credit or transfer, as we are typically unable to fill those spots on short notice.
