Forget about cupcakes, it’s time to bring back the layer cake! And what better way to say “Happy Birthday” than with a multi-layered gift you’ve made yourself? In this class birthday-cake devotee Heather Newton will teach you the fundamentals of mixing cake batter, stacking layers, and the lost art of swiss meringue buttercream. You’ll work in teams to create some of her favorite winter cake recipes: ginger cake with yuzu curd and torched saffron buttercream; chocolate malt cake with whiskey caramel and cinnamon buttercream; brown sugar cake with toasted hazelnuts and coconut buttercream; and banana cake with tahini ganache and salty maple buttercream.

While our event purchases are nonrefundable, we are generally happy to give a credit for a future event when we can fill your spot. If you need to cancel, we will reach out to the waitlist. If we get any takers, we can then issue you a credit. The chances of finding a replacement are higher with as much advance notice as possible, so please let us know as soon as possible if you need to cancel.
