One of the oldest native dishes in the Americas, tamales are an iconic dish of Mexican cuisine that are inseparable from winter holidays. While eating tamales is easy, making them is a real project, which is why it’s best to gather your loved ones for la tamalada – a day of assembling and cooking enough tamales to enjoy for months afterwards. Join Gino Garcia in class where he will teach you how to plan the perfect tamalada for your friends and family! You’ll learn how to make fresh-whipped masa that you’ll turn into tamales rojos de puerco (red pork tamales with smoky ancho chile salsa); rajas y queso tamales (roasted green chiles and cheese tamales) with tomatillo-serrano salsa; and tamales de fresa y queso crema (strawberry and cream cheese dessert tamales).
Please note: some classes can be adjusted for students with dietary restrictions, but many cannot. If you’re vegetarian, pescatarian, or gluten-free, you can use the drop-down menu on our events page to view the best classes to fit your needs. If a class you’re interested in doesn’t appear in that filtered view, please email us before registering and we’ll see if the class’s menu can be modified.
All class and event purchases at The Pantry are non-refundable. If you’re unable to attend, you are always welcome to transfer your ticket to a friend or family member.
We understand that plans can change. When possible, we are happy to offer a credit or a transfer to a future event if we are able to fill your spot from our waitlist. Because our classes are small and ingredient-driven, this is not guaranteed and depends on demand and timing. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the event are not eligible for credit or transfer, as we are typically unable to fill those spots on short notice.
