Still nostalgic for your favorite Jewish deli in New York or L.A.? Us too. Seattle's got a lot of things going for it, but there just aren’t that many places to get a decent pastrami reuben. So Jonathan Silverberg, founder of Schmaltzy’s Deli, is going to show us how it’s done. You'll learn about the rise of the iconic "Jewish Deli" while learning to make all of the reuben sandwich essentials, from homemade rye challah rolls to from-scratch pastrami. You'll make classic sauerkraut and Russian dressing, and round out the meal with his favorite sides: apple fennel coleslaw with buttermilk dressing and cucumber and tomato salad with sweet chile dressing.
Please note: some classes can be adjusted for students with dietary restrictions, but many cannot. If you’re vegetarian, pescatarian, or gluten-free, you can use the drop-down menu on our events page to view the best classes to fit your needs. If a class you’re interested in doesn’t appear in that filtered view, please email us before registering and we’ll see if the class’s menu can be modified.
All class and event purchases at The Pantry are non-refundable. If you’re unable to attend, you are always welcome to transfer your ticket to a friend or family member.
We understand that plans can change. When possible, we are happy to offer a credit or a transfer to a future event if we are able to fill your spot from our waitlist. Because our classes are small and ingredient-driven, this is not guaranteed and depends on demand and timing. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the event are not eligible for credit or transfer, as we are typically unable to fill those spots on short notice.
