Japanese Izakaya

Duration: 3 hoursType: In-PersonPrice: $145

Izakayas dot the streets of Tokyo, welcoming visitors with the promise of sake and delicious snacks. In this class, Kanako Koizumi will teach you how to recreate some of these dishes in your own home. You’ll learn about the history of the izakaya as you taste a selection of her favorite sakes. You’ll make daikon simmered in dashi with ground chicken and aburaage (fried beancurd); chicken karaage (fried chicken bites); potato salad with aji tama (seasoned soft-boiled egg); atsuage (fried tofu with cheesy miso topping); and ochazuke (rice bowl with broiled salmon, pickled radish, tempura, and hot tea).

Please note: some classes can be adjusted for students with dietary restrictions, but many cannot. If you’re vegetarian, pescatarian, or gluten-free, you can use the drop-down menu on our events page to view the best classes to fit your needs. If a class you’re interested in doesn’t appear in that filtered view, please email us before registering and we’ll see if the class’s menu can be modified.

Cancellation Policy

All class and event purchases at The Pantry are non-refundable. If you’re unable to attend, you are always welcome to transfer your ticket to a friend or family member.

We understand that plans can change. When possible, we are happy to offer a credit or a transfer to a future event if we are able to fill your spot from our waitlist. Because our classes are small and ingredient-driven, this is not guaranteed and depends on demand and timing. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the event are not eligible for credit or transfer, as we are typically unable to fill those spots on short notice.
