Dumplings pop up in homes around the world, and the Germans have their own twists on this cultural mainstay. Kartoffel knodel (potato dumplings) are standard Sunday dinner fare in Germany, and we’ll bathe them in piping-hot kartoffelsuppe with chicken, bacon, and vegetables. Join Laura Pyles as she makes piles of buttery, steamed dampfnudel, and marvel at their duel existence – crispy on the bottom and tender on top. You’ll stuff them with cherry jam and douse them with sweet vanilla custard sauce. You’ll round the hearty meal out with a German-style cucumber salad with horseradish and dill and sauteed kale with apples, onions, and allspice.
