We are so excited to host you in our upcoming class! One week before class we will email everyone the complete shopping list and then a few days before class we will email the detailed recipe packet and a Zoom link. Until then, below is a list of ingredients and equipment that you’ll need.

On the menu:
Semlor Buns! This includes:
Cardamom Buns
Almond Marzipan Filling
Whipped Cream Cheese Filling

Shopping List:


unsalted butter
whole milk
cream cheese
heavy whipping cream

Dry Goods / Pantry:
instant yeast
powdered sugar
kosher salt
baking powder
all-purpose flour
whole almonds (we’ll be using toasted almonds – so you can either buy them toasted or add that to your prep list!)
almond extract
vanilla extract
oil (doesn’t matter what kind), to oil the bowl


decorticated cardamom seeds (note: if these are hard to find, you can buy the green cardamom pods and open them yourself! if you don’t want to do that, you can use ground cardamom, the flavor will be lovely, but won’t burst quite as much)

Equipment List:

Small pan to melt butter and warm milk
Food processor
Mortar and pestle (or a heavy skillet and cutting board) – to crush the cardamom seeds
2 large bowls to mix the dough: one for mixing, one for proofing
1 medium-sized bowl to mix the almond filling
1 small bowl to mix the wet ingredients for the bun dough
1 small bowl to hold the cream cheese
Stand mixer with both paddle and whisk attachments (we’re making the dough by hand, but this will come in handy when we whip our cream – it’s not vital if you don’t have one, just be sure to have a bowl and a whisk)
2 baking sheets lined with parchment paper
Microplane (for zesting)
Measuring cups
Wooden spoon
Whisk (we’ll use this a couple of times, but it’s easy to wash between use)
Kitchen thermometer
Kitchen scale (optional)
Bench scraper (my favorite tool!)
Pastry brush
Large serrated knife (and a cutting board)
Plastic wrap or a few clean kitchen towels
