How to Taste

Recipes are great, but a cook’s ability to taste and adjust while cooking is what takes a dish to the next level. Part theory and discussion, and part at-home experimentation, join Becky Selengut for this experiential class on the art of tasting. She’ll discuss 10 elements of taste and flavor, breaking down all of the components that go into creating a balanced and flavorful dish. Experiments at home include: a jelly bean taste test to teach the art of maximizing your senses; mastering the art of salting in a simple guacamole; learning how to reduce bitterness and increase sweetness, and making a Manhattan cocktail.

This is a live, hands-on class held in your kitchen via Zoom. Class is meant to be as interactive as it would be at our table, with the instructor teaching you how to prepare each recipe. Each class ticket is for one kitchen, and we welcome group cooking on the same screen. All recipes are designed for four servings.

Three days before class we will email everyone the detailed recipe packet and a Zoom link. All classes are listed in Pacific Daylight Time.
