Good food writing is rarely just about food: it’s about people, places, and who we are. In this two-day workshop with author Molly Wizenberg, we'll focus on the craft of narrative food writing, exploring how the sensory details of food can help us unlock our most fertile memories. Drawing on works by Nigel Slater, Laurie Colwin, M. F. K. Fisher, Diana Abu-Jaber, and Gabrielle Hamilton, we'll unpack and examine a story's essential components (image, metaphor, scene, and more), building a writer's mental toolbox that you can dip into whenever — and whatever — you write. Using food as both crowbar and anchor, we’ll tune up our awareness of the details that are important to us, and learn how to follow these details directly into scenes, moments, stories that only we can tell.
