For Paige Irwin, cooking has always been about more than just delicious food. All her life she’s been drawn to the kitchen by the shared feelings of joy, comfort and community that come from working together to prepare a great meal. Paige grew up in Vancouver, Washington, in a family of teachers, before heading to the University of Washington to pursue food studies in the Biology, Geography and Nutrition departments.
She came to us from Seattle Tilth, where she taught organic gardening classes, led hands-on garden tours for kids, and became certified as a Master Food Preserver. She started out at The Pantry as one of our volunteer assistants, and grew with us to become our in-house gardener, preservation specialist, and manager of operations.
