Kristen is a good eater. An at-home cook, she found her way into the kitchen by way of her backyard vegetable patch. She studied environmental policy and sustainable agriculture, developing a love for a homegrown, homemade way of life.
Striving to build a community that is well-fed, Kristen has spent the majority of her career as a community educator, focusing on food access and education. She has worked to launch a network of school gardens and community kitchens, developing curriculum that centers around building cooking, nutrition, and gardening skills. Most recently Kristen managed the Seattle Youth Garden Works program where she planted, harvested, cooked, and ate vegetables alongside young people on an urban plot at the Center for Urban Horticulture.
At the Pantry, Kristen manages private events, hosts food swaps, and sources ingredients from local farmers and purveyors. She is motivated by creating connections within the community, especially those resulting in growing, cooking, and sharing meals.
