Ashley has always had a heart for adventure and sense of curiosity around food and culture. Growing up in Southern California, with a mother from the Philippines and Russian-Jewish roots, meant that food was always about exploration, experimentation, and togetherness.
With degrees in international development and public health, Ashley has spent most of her career focused on improving water, sanitation, and hygiene conditions in low-income communities around the world. Through her travels, her eyes were widened to the dynamic beauty and heartbreak of the world and how food, in every culture, expressed so much of it.
Ashley is the creator of the Kinship Table, where she continues to run her food experimentation projects while exploring meaning and tradition, always gathering community around the table — excellent preparation, as it turns out, for what we do here at the Pantry.
